President Obama Lets Everyone Know He’s the H.N.I.C.

Well our new Prez spent the day letting everyone know he was the new sheriff in town:

Earlier in the day, Obama said he would issue a pay freeze for his senior staff members.

The new president has also promised swift action on the beleaguered economy. House Democrats, at Obama’s urging, have signed an $825 billion economic recovery package that the president says will save or create up to 4 million jobs and invest in health care, energy and education.

Obama also moved fast to address a campaign promise to close the controversial Guantanamo Bay detention facility.

The administration is drafting executive orders calling for the closure of the detention facility, according to two administration officials.

He also made ethics training mandatory and has also halted all trials at Gitmo:

In one of his first official acts, President Barack Obama instituted a 120-day suspension of military tribunals held at the Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, naval base.

Not bad for Day 1 on the job. I’ll be keeping close tabs on these first 100 days. I’m curious to see how any “stimulus” package unfolds, even though I’m skeptical of all such plans. Any ’save the economy’ talk that doesn’t include discussion of real reform of the financial sector and creating real jobs (i.e. ones that involve us making things) that pay a living wage is bullshit and anyone with any good sense knows that. But we will see. It’s only Day 1.

I didn’t vote for him, but I really hope he turns out to be a great leader. If he does, i will cast my ballot for him in 2016.

If it’s so derogatory, then why have i heard some blacks use it? (I’ve also heard blacks use the n-word in general)

Shame on you!!!! “HNIC” is derogatory. You seriously need human relation training. This is the president of the United States of America, act like it!!

What an awful archaic and racist term to use. You probably thought it was funny but it really just demonstrates how far our country really still has to go in terms of race relations. Sad really that your title also demonstrates how far you have to go. Not funny, just dumb.

    LOL.

    Ya’ll are a funny lot.

@politicalanimal just because you’ve heard Black folks use ni**er doesn’t mean it’s okay for anyone else to. Doesn’t stop it form being derogatory when in the mouth of others.

    I’m sorry ya’ll are offended.

And no one is degrading the black race…the H.N.I.C. line is one of the funniest in the movie “Lean on Me.” Which is what the title is an allusion too.

@ajtyne shoulad read the rest of the post. It was pretty good:-)

“Doesn’t stop it form being derogatory when in the mouth of others.”

You just made my point. I hear blacks use it but no one seems to mind. But no one should be allowed to use that offensive word.

    @politicalanimal

    I didn’t make your point.

Because the oppressed choose to take the language of the oppressor and make it their own doesn’t mean it’s okay for everyone else to. Particularly those in the majority who created the offensive word to begin with.

The world isn’t fair…and anytime I hear non-black/minority people make the argument “Well, if I can’t say it no one can,” it just reminds me of a kid having a temper tantrum, “Well she did it why can’t I.”

If you can’t understand the difference black folks saying ni–ger and white folks saying it, then you’re in need of a real history lesson on this country and its treatment of anyone they considered “other.”

Yeah, I have to agree with a lot of the comments I’ve read here. Not the best choice of terms for sure, even if meant somewhat tongue in cheek. Also, count me in as those who see a BIG difference in a word depending on who uses it. Reclamation of offensive words by minority groups is one way to remove the power from the word. It doesn’t make if ok for you to use it or cry “no fair”.
